Lloyd has turned the theatre into the ultimate party venue. There are strobe lights, club classics and more pink confetti than you have ever seen! From the moment I entered I felt that I was transported, the familiar setting fading away - this was going to be a fun ride!
Theatre
The Last Midnight
Student performances at The Oxford Playhouse seem to have taken a turn towards stripped back sets. Peach Productions’ Into The Woods continues this trend, presenting audiences with a fairytale told on a bare stage. This seems like an interesting decision that relies on the ensemble. But, does this show succeed?
Blaggardy Bloodletting Pirates
As I reach the end of every production I find there's a sense of 'well that's that then'. It's a slow release of adrenaline, a feeling of something lost and found, as you realise that that's it. So, here's to scraped knees, heads colliding with chair legs and overzealous performing.
Small Town Drama
So I suppose that is my update. I am living a peaceful existence in a snow covered rural town that currently feels remarkably like one of those Christmas movies where the city slicker comes home and falls back in love with the small town existence.
Men Don’t Wear Pink
Straddle tells the story of a boy coming to terms with his sexuality, a story we have all seen a hundred times before, particularly in this Fringe style. The challenge in moments like these is to find a way to create something that doesn't feel like a story we know.
In My Producing Era
The adventure of producing a student show of Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereusus at the Oxford Playhouse
Are You with the Witch?
To say Darkside was a play is selling it short, rather it was a blending of mediums. As a reviewer I seek talent, innovation and quirks, but ultimately I look to be moved, to experience something new that makes me think differently about theatre. This was one of those moments.
Can I be Vulnerable With You Guys?
This was a piece of art that determinedly saw how far it could push things, leaning into stereotypes and behaviours that many find repellant in order to find their comedic value. The intimate venue of the yurt was perfect for a comedy set, allowing Horn to interact with the audience.
How Comfortable are you with Silence?
What happens if a tree falls in a forest and there's no one around? What happens if a forest burns and no one is there to witness it? Does that mean that either even happen? These are questions posed in the opening monologue of Max Morgan's play Carrion.
Living The London High Life
Anyone who knows me knows I live a fast-paced existence, juggling projects while running on matcha, black coffee and limited sleep. So it will come as no surprise that shortly after I had completed my final days at university I was back in a city with a full calender.
